Joining forces: accelerating transformation and scaling in the health sector

NHT samarbeider med NHO organisasjoner for å få fart på omstilling

Oslo, 23 April 2026: Norway Health Tech, NHO Geneo, Melanor and Abelia are joining forces to contribute to faster transformation in the health services. The ambition is to strengthen the development of a competitive Norwegian health industry and to help ensure that more solutions are actually adopted – at scale.

Norway has, in many respects, a healthcare system of world-class quality. At the same time, the sector is facing an increasing shortage of healthcare professionals, tighter public budgets and persistent capacity challenges. Despite a high pace of innovation, too little is happening in practice. Many strong solutions are never adopted in the services.

– Norway invests significant resources in healthcare and has many highly skilled professionals. Nevertheless, the current model is not sustainable over time. We need to make greater use of technology and new ways of working that increase capacity in the health services, says Karita Bekkemellem, CEO of NHO Geneo.

A system that needs to be set up for change

The organisations point to three bottlenecks slowing transformation: a weak domestic market for health innovation, financing models that reward activity rather than outcomes, and the fact that successful pilots rarely become permanent practice.

– Healthcare Norway does not primarily have an innovation problem, but an implementation problem. Good solutions are developed, but adoption is too slow and too fragmented. If we are to succeed, we must accelerate implementation and scaling, says Øystein E. Søreide, CEO of Abelia.

– This collaboration is about making it easier to get good solutions into the health services. We need to connect industry, healthcare providers and authorities more closely to create greater momentum and clearer direction in the transformation, says Arild Kristensen, COO of Norway Health Tech.

Stronger collaboration with authorities

The partnership comes at a time when the need for transformation in the health services is high on the political agenda.

– The authorities are calling for more coordinated efforts from the health industry. With this collaboration, we are taking a clear step towards better dialogue and stronger capacity for action, says Jan Ivar Nygårdsvold Ingebrigtsen, managing director of Melanor.

The collaboration will focus in particular on improving the alignment between needs in the health services and solutions from industry, closer and more coordinated dialogue with authorities, and increasing the pace of implementation and scaling of proven solutions.
