Putting Women’s Health on the Agenda – From Clinic to Innovation
Hege Hansen is a midwife and co-founder of Induvita, with more than 25 years of hands-on experience from clinical work at Nordland Hospital. From her time in the delivery ward, she knows exactly “where the shoe pinches” — and decided to do something about it.
– “Induvita originated from an innovation project in Helse Nord and Nordland Hospital, and the entire journey has been driven by a clear and pressing need we witnessed every day,” says Hansen.
Induvita develops medical devices for women’s health and currently has three products in its portfolio.
- Runa and Ayla: Training simulators that allow healthcare professionals and students to practice vaginal examinations and gynecological procedures. Both products are already on the market.
- Vega speculum: A gynecological speculum under development, designed to make examinations more comfortable and less intrusive for patients. Planned for market launch in 2026.
- Iola induction catheter: A medical device under development for labor induction — consisting of a balloon catheter with mandrel and filling unit, designed to make the procedure safer and more comfortable for both patient and clinician. Soon ready for clinical testing.
The goal is to contribute to better birth experiences and safer processes for both women and healthcare personnel.
– “We haven’t created a need – we’re addressing an existing one,” Hansen emphasizes. “We want to train healthcare professionals and students to avoid unnecessary interventions during childbirth, and develop equipment that makes the experience safer and more dignified for women.”
Innovation from the North – with a Global Perspective
The company was founded in 2022, and its products are already being sold in Europe, the USA, and Australia. Induvita is experiencing growing demand, which Hansen believes is partly due to women now setting higher expectations for the quality and comfort of care than before.
She believes the Health Startup of the Year Award will mean a great deal — not only for the company, but for the field of women’s health as a whole.
– “This recognition signals that women’s health is finally being taken seriously. We hope it will lead to more openness and pride around gynecology and childbirth, and inspire women to demand more when it comes to their own healthcare,” says Hansen.
With headquarters in Bodø, Induvita is clear proof that world-class health technology innovation can happen far beyond the big cities.
– “It’s absolutely possible to build a medtech company up here in the cold north! We have a fantastic business environment that shows it’s possible to succeed from anywhere,” Hansen adds.
Going forward, Induvita will continue strengthening its focus on training and education for healthcare professionals and students, while further developing its product portfolio to improve maternal care — both in Norway and internationally.
Record Number of Nominations and Strong Finalists
This year’s engagement was record-breaking: over 50 nominations were submitted to the jury. After a thorough evaluation of market potential, sustainability, and actual impact for patients and healthcare workers, three finalists were selected:
💫 Eupnea AS
💫 Aidency AS
💫 Induvita AS
Each finalist had five minutes on stage at the Health Technology Conference to pitch their solution before a packed auditorium. After the presentations, the audience voted Induvita as the winner of Health Startup of the Year 2025.
– “With this award, we aim to highlight entrepreneurs who create solutions that are actually implemented — and that make healthcare more sustainable. Induvita is a brilliant example of how clinical insight can be transformed into real innovation,” says Lena Nymo Helli, CEO of Norway Health Tech.
