NeoRad is a Norwegian company within the medtech sector. A Chinese company based in Shanghai has now acquired full control of the company. Sinowin Medical Technology Co., LTD wants to keep the production in Norway.
The new owners of NeoRad will keep the production line in Norway.
– This is very positive, CEO Nicolay Berard-Andersen says.
– Our lead product is SimpliCT, a laser guide for image guided interventions. It will continue to be produced at Mectro in Horten. We are very happy with this solution and hope that it will be a model in future acquisitions as well, Berard-Andersen says.
SimpliCT has been sold to over 50 hospitals and clinics both in CT, PET-CT and advanced 3D angio labs, for non vascular interventions such as biopsies, ablations, drainages, infiltrations etc. It was The Norwegian entrepreneur and radiologist, Knut Brabrand from Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet who invented the apparatus based on laser technology, improving accuracy and reducing radiation dosage.
Chairman of the board of NeoRad, Carl Christian Gilhuus-Moe, is certain that this is just the beginning of a Chinese influx in the Norwegian medtech sector.
– As the working climate between Norway and China is warming up, we are seeing positive concrete results with this sale of our company to Sinowin Technology. There’s a large and rapidly aging population in China. This is one of the major health challenges, and they will have to turn outside their borders to find solutions. Data and new smart technologies will be important in the future, and have already been presented as possible areas for health and welfare cooperation between Norway and China in previous meetings, Gilhuus-Moe says.
– China’s has their 13th 5-year plan in effect, it emphasizes their high ambitions on innovation and R&D. The need for efficient medtech solutions that can meet unmet medical needs are of high interest for Norwegian companies and startups. The sale of NeoRad could just be the start of a wave within the medtech sector, he says.
The price of the deal between NeoRad and Sinowin Medical Technology Co., LTD is undisclosed.
